Case Study – Reg, 3½ and Esme, 18 months

Both Reg and Esme attend First Steps in Brinsbury three days a week. “When I first looked around the nursery my son was 2 and my daughter just 8 months old. Reg had previously been at another nursery but when I decided to go back to work after having my little girl I wanted something closer to home that would suit them both. First Steps has been brilliant! Hands on, comforting childcare for my baby girl and everything my little boy loves in a loving, creative environment, coupled with a reassuring routine and learning skills like table manners which is important to us.”

We know how much first impressions count and Stacie immediately felt that her children would not only have a wonderful time but be safe and well cared for at First Steps. “Reg loves the outside – especially the mud kitchen – and as we don’t have a garden at home, this outdoor space really is important and something our little boy greatly benefits from.” Reg and Esme, like a number of the children in our care, also benefit from being able to see each other during the day – something many children find comforting. Esme is able to see her big brother and play with him and the bigger children in our outdoor play area.

We recognise how hard it can be for parents to leave their children at nursery, especially after a period of being at home with them, so ensuring they are settled as quickly as possible and communicating frequently is key for us. Stacie found this especially reassuring: “I found it hard leaving them and there were tears from them – and me – to begin with! The staff at First Steps were so good with settling us all in and what I thought would be a long, hard process really wasn’t with the nursery feeling like a home from home in no time at all. I really couldn’t think of a better place I would want my children to be.”
